If you are considering going to a pet shop and buying some captive bred small white doves, and performing your own release, please take time to read this information:

As the unique practice of releasing white doves becomes more popular, so inevitably does the incidence of people wishing to "do it themselves" and save money. While we agree that saving money is great--it is not advisable where live animals/birds are concerned. Please don't let anyone persuade you to go to a pet shop and buy some captive bred small white doves, to perform a self-release.

The only birds that should ever be used to perform releases are "Rock Doves" commonly known as "Homing Pigeons". These birds are specifically bred and trained to perform releases and then to return to their home. Please don't even consider doing a "self-release" using any other type of bird. The small white doves (ring necks) sometimes for sale in pet shops must never be released into the wild as they would perish very quickly.
